Method 1. Look for paper scraps or paper jam

  • Disconnect the printer Mfc j430w
  • Open the scanner cover followed by looking inside the device and then look for a piece of debris or paper jam inside the printing machine. 
  • Be sure that the paper is not blocking the printer head. Now turn the printer to left or right to check for a piece of debris.
  • If the Print head is already on the left side, then turn it to the middle. 
  • Then, look for a foreign object inside there and close the cover of the scanner and put the power outlet back on the device. Clear the strip of the encoder, if the issue is present. 
  • If the print head is on the right side, place the power cord back on the printing machine. When the LCD shows that the cover is open, click and hold the Exit key for 5 seconds.
  • As the print head moves back to the middle, disconnect the power cable then replace the foreign objects stuck inside the printing machine.
  • Close the cover of the scanner and put back the power cables back to the good outlet.  And in the last, clean the encoder strip carefully if the problem is still.

Method 2 Clean the Encoder Strip

  • Replace the entire power cables from the wall outlet and from the printing device.
  • Lift the cover of the scanner and look for the Encoder strip.
  • Use a dry fluff cloth to clean out both sides of the Encoder strip.
  • Clean it from left to right and repeat the same process again
  • As you are done with cleaning of the Encoder strip, close the cover of the scanner.
  • Attach all the power cable back on the device and check the issue.
